Advent Retreat – November 30, 2011
Our Advent Retreat had many activities going on at once. Here are photos from
Ms. Nancy’s Nativity Play:
Making Advent Wreaths together
The Advent Calendar
was not your typical open-the-flap type. We wanted to incorporate loving deeds into our Advent season.

The Advent Calendar was stack of colored papers to make a chain of good deeds throughout the Advent season
The Jesse Tree
station was a place to make ornaments that also count the days until Christmas. Each of the 25 ornaments was printed with an ancestor of Jesus as it traced his family tree throughout the Bible back to Jesse. Each ornament had a scripture verse on the back and a black and white picture for the children to decorate. They were not skimpy when it came to applying the glitter or the glue!
Soup Kits
for Our Lady of the Rosary parish in Louisburg was a fun way to incorporate an act of loving service in our Advent Retreat. Along the line of tables were arranged bins of ingredients for the families to work together and package. At the end, there was a recipe in Spanish and English and a sweet note from the Preschool to the families who would be receiving our gift. We packed over 100 bags of soup!! Great job!
Mr. Jim and the storytellers
entertained the children during the event. Mr. Jim sang songs that the children were familiar with from their music classes and our celebrity storytellers shared different tales from the Nativity.
The Cookie Decorating station
was a big hit from start to finish! Our cookies were all homemade by Tara Heller and Maggie Hemedinger to be assured that they were nut-free. It was a delicious way to end the evening!
Thank you
to all the coordinators who made this possible: Jen Campbell, Susan Gowland, Moira Roberts, Tara Heller, Nancy Bourke and Jim Wahl, and to all the teachers who came to help out man the stations to make things run smoothly and tell tales to our families. What an unforgettable evening of love, service and fellowship you all provided for us!
