It’s spring, and we’re regularly working in the Community Garden, planting, tending and harvesting cool weather crops. So far we have planted broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, leeks, kohlrabi, celery and bok choy transplants and have sowed carrots, radishes, lettuces, spinach and peas.
We currently meet to work in the garden on Saturdays beginning at 1 p.m., weather permitting. Please join us to learn about and enjoy growing food! Children are welcome. No gardening experience necessary.
About
The community garden is located behind the log house (LaVerna Center), which is directly across the parking lot from St. Mary’s Chapel. The garden, begun last spring, has been a blessing in so many ways. We have learned much and made new friends from St. Francis and beyond. Children from The Franciscan School and others with their parents have shown a special knack for gardening and almost limitless energy. We revel in their participation.
In addition, we were proud to have produced almost 500 lbs. of fresh produce for those in need last year. We’ve almost doubled the number of beds and hope the garden will continue to be the miracle we witnessed last year. Since we give our produce to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle through Plant a Row for the Hungry at Logan’s, we invite any of you who have more produce than you can handle in the coming growing season to do likewise.
