As we celebrate the feast of Pentecost [June 12], which helps us recognize the diversity of mankind throughout history, let us also recognize and celebrate diversity in our midst today. The Franciscan Coalition for Justice and Peace is proud to sponsor the Pentecost Fiesta Donation Drive on June 11 and June 12 in order to reach out and welcome the migrant workers who have come to Louisburg, NC to harvest the crops.
The migrant workers will be in the Louisburg campsites from June through September — and are in need of many essential items. In particular, the migrant workers need the following:
- Fans — for comfort in the summer heat, especially after a long day of harvesting crops in the hot sun
- Adult bicycles — since this is their only means of transportation in Louisburg. If they do not have access to a bike, they are not able to go anywhere other than their trailer at the end of the day.
- Radios, TV’s, DVD players — so that they can some form of entertainment, communication about the world outside of their migrant camp.
- Sporting equipment — again for actitivity and entertainment in the migrant campsite.
- Baseball caps, long sleeve shirts, long pants - to shield from the sun
- Sheets, Pillows and Pillowcases
- Toiletries & Personal Care Items
- Kitchen Items
- Sunscreen & bug spray
- Bed frames, mattresses, box springs
- A washer & dryer
- A lawnmower
A POD will be in the parking lot, and volunteers available to assist with donations on:
Saturday, June 11 from 9am to 5:30 pm
Sunday, June 12 from 7am to 5:30 pm
